Mumbai-based Rakhee Vaswani has been certified as a Cordon Bleu chef at celebrity chef and TV host Gordon Ramsay’s old school, Tante Marie, in London. Touted as India’s 'Desi Nigella’ Chef Rakhee is a natural with flavours and textures, her biggest asset being her strong palate and a deep-rooted passion for the culinary arts.
Her culinary journey, which began at the tender age of 11, has culminated in many firsts. Rakhee’s vision to make world cuisines easily available in the country saw the birth of the first cooking studio in India, called Palate Culinary Studio, in early 2010. Over two decades of experience in the food industry and Rakhee’s natural gift for teaching have catapulted her Palate Culinary Studio from a humble mom-and-pop outfit to a state-of-the-art internationally recognised cooking school. Here, she trains budding chefs and amateurs (many of them celebrities) for a 4-year UK-certified Culinary Diploma Course under the aegis of the quality-standards-driven Confederation of Tourism & Hospitality (CTH). Currently, she also offers 99 hobby classes covering a wide repertoire of Indian, Lebanese, Japanese, Chinese, and Mexican cuisines, sugar craft, and much more.
With a passion for good food, Rakhee is a perfectionist. Though serious about her work, this multi-talented, charming chef also believes that food is fun and enjoys the history and histrionics of dishes. Recently, she published her first book for fussy kids called Picky Eaters, which was launched by her good friend and student, Malaika Arora.
An all-rounder when it comes to food, Rakhee has also covered the London-based restaurant festival ‘Taste of London’ for the Food Bloggers Association of India (FBAI), where she interviewed India-born British celebrity Chef Atul Kochhar. Her global sojourns and interviews and interactions with other food legends, including Chefs Raymond Blanc and Eric Lanlart, have helped her gain expertise and deep insight into world cuisines. Her food expeditions all over the world are being put together in her upcoming blog so fans can retrace her culinary adventures.
In September 2015, Chef Rakhee Vaswani became the face of a new TV show called Rewind with Rakhee on India’s first ‘food-tainment’ channel called Living Foodz. On air even as you read this, here she takes her audience on a nostalgic food journey from the 1900s till date, adding unique twists to classic recipes in each theme-based episode. Chef Rakhee went on to host two more food shows for Living Foodz through 2015.
